Domestic logistics business is growing with a positive trend through direct penetration of consumer products and services everywhere in the country, sources said.
Along with the professional logistics entrepreneurs the corporate houses and industries are developing their own resources for marketing their products and services at the root level.
According to a source at Bangladesh Freight Forwarders Association (BAFFA), every year on an average domestic logistics services are growing by 10 per cent in the country.
Senior Vice President of BAFFA Amirul Islam Chowdhury (Mizan) said with the growing economic activities the growth potentiality of logistics business is high.
He said supply chain managements and distribution channels-based services by the leading conglomerates across the country are creating a scope for investing money in logistics business.
He said if there is insurance coverage for transports, professionalism and removal of bottlenecks in the administration, investments in logistics will get further boost.
Former general secretary of International Air Express Association of Bangladesh (IAEAB) Bashir AK Chowdhury said despite having great potentiality, local logistics services sector is not having adequate growth.
He said insufficient training facilities, lack of bank loans and application of rules and regulations in this business are impeding the growth.
The former IAEAB leader said the rules should be updated for attracting local investments in this business.
He said despite there being a large volume of trade no local company of international standard has developed due to lack of knowledge, training and professionalism.
According to another source at the BAFFA, a good amount of local private investment is being made in this sector but it is enough.
He said though its growth is positive, the government and private financial institutions are yet to help the sector that can contribute to country's economic growth by reducing transport costs within shorter periods.
