Domestic LPG price witnesses fall

Prices of 12 kg LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas) cylinder declined by Tk 50 to Tk 100 on per cylinder after continued price fall in the international market, traders said.
"We've brought down the plant gate price of 12 kg LPG cylinder by Tk 100 this month keep pace with the international market," divisional head of operations and planning at Bashundhara LP Gas Jahidul Islam told the FE.
He said the plant gate price of Bashundhara Gas was Tk 1,350 last month, which came down to Tk 1,250, but the price may go up by Tk 100 if transportation cost to consumers is counted.
State-run Saudi Aramco cut its January contract price for propane to $425 a tonne, down $125 from the December level. Butane prices for January 2015 were also cut to $470 a tonne, down by $100 from December level of $570, according to www.endofcrudeoil.com.
Bodiul Alam, a LPG distributor of Doyaganj in the city told the FE the plant gate price of different LPG companies such as Kleenheat or Petragaz, Bashundhara Gas, Total Gaz and Jamuna Gas was between Tk 1,300 and Tk 1,350 last month, which is now selling at Tk 1200-1,250.
Mr Alam, also the owner of Gas Solution said, the price should be reduced more for the sake of customers as the contract price of LPG in the international market continued to decline in the last couple of months.
Plant-gate prices of 12kg LPG cylinder of Kleenheat or Petragaz is now Tk 1,200, Bashundhara Gas Tk 1,250, Total Gaz Tk 1180 and Jamuna Gas Tk 1,130.
Distributors said the consumers can buy a cylinder at Tk 1300-1350 across the country after the price reduction by the LPG firms.
LPG is a combination of butane and propane with the ratio of 70:30. The annual consumption of LPG in Bangladesh is estimated at 100,000 tonnes.
The LPG is mainly imported from Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam, Singapore and China.
Some 80 per cent of the demand is imported while Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC) produces the rest 20 per cent.
