Dr Md Ezazul Islam has been promoted to Executive Director (Grade I) at Bangladesh Bank (BB) from his previous position as Executive Director (Grade II).
He currently oversees the Monetary Policy Department of the central bank, where his primary responsibilities include formulating and implementing BB's monetary and exchange rate policies.
Dr. Islam is at the forefront of efforts to modernise the monetary policy framework, focusing on introducing an interest rate corridor, streamlining liquidity management, and implementing a crawling exchange rate system.
He also actively participates as a member of BB's Monetary Policy Committee.
Previously, Dr. Islam served as General Manager in the Chief Economist's Unit, worked as a Research Economist in the Policy Analysis Unit, and held various positions within BB's Research Department.
His professional career spans over 32 years in central banking.
Dr. Islam holds a Ph.D. in monetary economics. He has published numerous articles on topics such as monetary transmission channels, interest and exchange rates, banking, financial inclusion, and growth in refereed journals.
