Atomic energy scientist Dr. Md. Showkat Akbar has been made chairman of Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission (BAEC).
A government notification to this effect was published on January 18.
Prior to this new assignment, he was appointed as a member of the commission.
He was earlier working as Project Director of Ruppur Nuclear Power Project and Managing Director of NPCBL.
During his long 25 years of service at the commission, he made his immense contribution to the fields of atomic energy, atomic engineering and project management.
He obtained his BSC (honors) and Master degrees in the first class. He did his doctorate on electrical engineering from Hokkaido Institute of Technology.
He worked as founder Managing Director of Nuclear Power Plants Company Bangladesh Ltd. (NPCBL) founded for running the first ever nuclear power plant of Bangladesh.
He was born in Kishoreganj district in 1966 and joined the BAEC as a scientist in 1993.
