The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (Ecnec) on Tuesday approved 12 projects, including a sewerage treatment plant in the city's Uttara area, involving a total estimated cost of Tk 54.94 billion, reports UNB.
The approval came at the weekly ECNEC meeting held at the NEC conference room with ECNEC Chairperson and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair.
"Today's ECNEC meeting approved 12 projects involving the total cost of Tk 54.94 billion. Of the cost, Tk 54.16 billion will come from government funds, while the remaining 780 million as project assistance," said Planning Minister MA Mannan while briefing reporters after the meeting.
Of the approved projects, seven are new and the remaining five are revised ones.
Of the total project cost, Tk 13.98 billion will be spent on land acquisition to set up a sewerage treatment plant in the city's Uttara area.
About the sewerage treatment plant, the minister said Dhaka Wasa under the Local Government Division will implement the project by June 2021 aiming to ensure hygienic, environment-friendly and sustainable sanitation system in Uttara area.
The main project activities include acquiring 53.75 acres of land and providing compensation.
Besides, a project titled 'Construction of Rest Houses including Parking Facilities beside Four National Highways for Drivers of Goods-Laden Vehicles to ensure Sustainable and Safe Highways' will be implemented by June 2021 at a cost of Tk 2.26 billion, he said.
About the project, the minister said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at the meeting asked the authorities concerned to build modern houses for the drivers and helpers of vehicles.
The Prime Minister also instructed for being mindful so that trucks and other vehicles cannot carry goods beyond their capacities.
She also directed the authorities concerned to make arrangements for plantation while developing roads in hilly areas to avoid landslides.
The other projects approved at the meeting are: Constructing Cargo Vehicle Terminal at Benapole Land Port at a cost of Tk 2.89 billion, Constructing Alikodom-Jalanipara-Kurukpata-Poamuhuri Road (1st Revised) with Tk 5.09 billion, Constructing Barotakia (Abutorab)-Mirsarai Economic Zone Connecting Road (2nd Revised) with Tk 1.83 billion, Upgrading Khulna city portion of Khulna-Chuknagar and Satkhira Highways with Tk 1.0 billion and Widening and developing road from ECB Square to Mirpur and construction of a flyover at Kalshi (1st Revised) with Tk 10.12 billion.
The other projects include Integrated Livestock Development Project for the Disadvantaged Small Ethic Communities of Plain Lands and Improvement of their Living Standards with Tk 3.52 billion, Utilising Water in Small Irrigation through Excavating Ponds with Tk 1.28 billion, Establishment of Colonel Maleque and 500-bed hospital in Manikganj (1st Revised) with Tk 10.57 billion, Establishment of Begum Amina Mansur Textile Management Institute (1st Revised) at Kazipur in Sirajganj with Tk 1.19 billion and Integrated Farm Management Portion-2 Project with Tk 1.17 billion.
