ECNEC approves 5 projects involving Tk 6.40 billion

The government's highest economic policy-making body ECNEC approved five development projects at a total cost of Tk 6.40 billion on Tuesday.
Presided over by the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) in its meeting approved the projects.
Emerging from the meeting Planning Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal told journalists that out of the total Tk 6.40 billion cost, Tk 5.58 billion will come from the government's own exchequer while the remaining Tk 820 million from the project executing organisation's own fund.
Of the five projects, the ECNEC approved revision of the Tk3.32 billion cost pharmaceuticals park project at its meeting in Dhaka.
The ECNEC revised the active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) park project for the second time due to the time extension, delay in land acquisition, re-estimation of the cost following price hike and adding new component, Planning Commission officials said.
Under the project, a pharmaceutical industrial park would be established on 200 acres of land at Baushia and Laxmipur mouza beside Dhaka-Chittagong highway under Gazaria Upazilla of Munshiganj district.
The pharmaceutical park will accommodate industries on 42 plots to produce active pharmaceutical ingredients. The park would create about 25,000 direct employments.
The revised project cost stands at Tk 3.32 billion from Tk 2.33 billion. at the first revision, officials said.
AHM Mustafa Kamal told reporters that the Planning Ministry will ensure highest transparency under his leadership. "We will not spare the corrupt persons rather will proceed dropping them behind," the Minister said. The other projects approved in the meeting are: "Establishment of pulse and oil seed multiplication farm and seed processing centre at Subarnachar Upazilla of Noakhali district" at Tk 340 million; "Rehabilitation of old deep tube-wells in Rajshahi, Naogaon and Chapinawabgonj district" at Tk 770 million; "Vertical expansion of district judge court building with ancillary facilities in 28 districts" at Tk1.50 billion and "Dohar-Katakhali-Nikra-Galimpur-Tikarpur road development" project at a cost of Tk 460 billion.
ECNEC members including Finance Minister AMA Muhith, Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu, Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed, Agriculture Minister Matia Chowdhury, Planning Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal and ministers concerned, Members of the Planning Commission, Secretaries and officials concerned were present at the meeting.
