ECNEC okays five dev projects

The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) approved five development projects Tuesday at a total cost of Tk 6.15 billion to be borne by the government. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina presided over the meeting.
After the meeting Planning Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal briefed newsmen about its outcome at the Planning Commission.
Among the projects, the government's highest economic policy-making body approved a Tk1.84 billion project with a view to providing safe drinking water and sanitation facility to 40 municipalities in all the seven divisions across the country. This is the second phase of the project. Earlier, in FY2007-08 its first phase was implemented in 38 municipalities.
Under the project, 12 water treatment plants, 12 over head tanks, 1500 water points and 60 public toilets would be set up. Besides, it includes setting up of 100 test tube-wells, 50 production wells, 50 pump houses and 440 kilometre-long pipeline of different diameters.
