Enhance capacity of all land ports, says BGMEA chief

Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) on Tuesday pressed for enhancing the capacity and efficiency of all land ports in the country to meet the future demands of expanding trade and commerce.

BGMEA President Faruque Hassan made the call during his meeting with Bangladesh Land Port Authority (BLPA) Chairman Md Alamgir at the latter's office in the city, according to a statement.

The country's economy is growing day by day along with its import-export activities and investment, Mr Hassan said adding modern facilities will speed up and boost the trade of the country.

Expansions of infrastructure along with improved services at the land ports are essential to facilitate more favourable trade among Bangladesh, India and other neighbouring countries, the statement said quoting BGMEA president.

The BGMEA president also requested the Port Authority for simplification of export-import related services and procedures at the ports to speed up trade activities.
