The Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) called upon the government on Thursday to facilitate easy access to air-cargo facilities in order to boost the country's exports of vegetables and fruits.
It also urged the government to keep air freight costs at a reasonable level and to introduce dedicated cargo services for transporting perishable agricultural produce.
The apex trade body came up with the suggestions at a meeting of its standing committee on Import and Export of Fruits and Vegetablesat its Motijheel office in the capital.
Chairman of the committee and Managing Director of Mansur General Trading Company Mohammad Mansur presided over the meeting while FBCCI President Mahbubul Alam attended the meeting virtually.
The leaders said that import and export costs have increased due to dollar crisis, higher airfares, and complications related to customs and HS codes.
The FBCCI and the government have been working together to resolve issues related to the imports and exports of vegetables and fruits, they added.
