BRUSSELS, Oct 4 (Xinhua): The eurozone seasonally volume of adjusted retail trade rose by 1.2 per cent in August compared with July, the statistical office of the European Union (EU) Eurostat said Friday.
For the 28-nation EU area, the retail trade also increased by 1.4 per cent in August, suggesting an upward trend in demanding.
The retail sales index increased by 1.9 per cent in the eurozone and by 2.5 per cent in the EU in August on an annual basis.
The latest data showed a sharp peak in total retail trade, which fell by 0.4 per cent in both zones in July.
Such improvement in August is mainly due to rises of 1.7 per cent for automotive fuel, of 1.5 per cent for the non-food sector and of 0.6 per cent for "food, drinks and tobacco."
