CHITTAGONG, June 8: MA Latif, MP has said that the local shoe manufacturing companies should be turned into an industry.
With the aim we have to extend the periphery of the shoe industry and develop a well-trained work force he added.
"We are going to select a site on the south bank of the Karnaphuli river and start work for developing an industrial zone exclusively for shoe industry in cooperation with all small shoe makers of Chittagong in next six months," he said.
He said this at the swearing in ceremony of the newly elected executives of Chittagong Small Shoe Industry Owners Group at Sadarghat Port (East) Club in the city on Friday.
The newly elected executives of the shoe makers group were sworn in by President of Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry Mahbubul Alam.
Mr Alam said the small and medium entrepreneurs face problems in getting bank loans. The Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry will extend all out support to the shoe makers in getting bank loans and other government facilities.
Presided over by Chittagong Small Shoe Industry Owners Group Mr Solaiman the function was addressed by CCCI Secretary Osman Gani Chowdhury, Group Vice President Amir Ahmed, General Secretary Manjur Khan and former president Abdul Jabbar. Adviser of the Group, Zahir Uddin Akhond and founder president Rafiqul Islam, among others, were present.
