Export-import thru Benapole halted

Trades have remained suspended between Bangladesh and India through Benapole Land Port in Jashor since Wednesday morning, reports UNB.

Katrik Chakraborty, general secretary of Petrapol Port Staff Welfare Association said export-import activities between the two countries through the Benapole Land Port remained halted as India is celebrating the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.

Contacted, Uttam Chakma, assistant commissioner of Benapole Customs, said activities inside the land port area is normal but many raw materials of garment and factories remained stranded at Petrapole due to the holiday in India.

BSS adds, trades will remain halted for eight days from Friday through Hili Land Port (HLP) in Hakimpur upazila of Dinajpur district on the occasion of Durga Puja.

"All sorts of import-export activities would remain suspended through the (Hili) land port from October 4 to October 11," President of the Customs, Clearing and Forwarding Agents Association (CC and FAA) of HLP Kamal Hossain Raz told the news agency on Wednesday.
