Fair on financial products begins today

A total of 42 banks and 16 financial institutions will showcase their financing recipes at a fair beginning in the city today (Wednesday) on the urgency of funding small-and-medium-scale industries.         

The two-day SME Financing fair will be staged at the Pan Pacific Sonargaon hotel, reporters were told at a press conference in the Bangladesh Bank headquarters Tuesday.

Finance Minister AMA Muhith as chief guest will inaugurate the fair on financial services to the country's small and medium entrepreneurs.

The fair would be held in two separate segments. On the first day a seminar will be held on 'Credit guarantee scheme small and women entrepreneurs'.

BB SME department's deputy general manager Ashraful Alam, SME Foundation managing director Syed Md Ehsanul Karim, BB executive director Nirmal Chandra Vodro and BB deputy governor Md. Abul Kashem would attend the seminar.

The second day will focus on 'Present situation in Bangladesh's SME sector and its future action plan'.

At the second-day seminar senior bankers, officials, IT professionals, different academic professionals and chamber leaders are likely to be present to give their thoughts on modes of financing SME ventures, considered lifeline of industrialisation in countries like Bangladesh.

In the inaugural session SME banking award-2014 would be declared. Ten banks and financial institutions in different categories have already been selected.

BB SME general manager Abul Kashem, executive director Ebtadul Islam and SME Foundation managing director Syed Ehsanul Karim were present at the pre-fair press conference.
