Faster project work to help BD become rich: IMED secretary

The country's economy is expanding at a steady 8.1 per cent rate but it fails to ensure full implementation of projects in time, said Implementation Monitoring and Evaluation Division (IMED) secretary Abul Mansur Md Faizullah.
This failure often results in a rise in expenditure and the misuse of public funds, he added.
All stakeholders concerned should work sincerely to speed up project implementation and maintain quality in achieving the government's target of graduating Bangladesh to a developed country by 2041.
Mr Faizullah was speaking at a workshop as the chief guest at Circuit House in Barishal on Monday, organised by CPTU under digitising implementation monitoring and public procurement project (DIMAPPP) of the World Bank and facilitated by Bangladesh Centre for Communication Programme (BCCP).
Citing that the country is advancing towards achieving Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's target for establishing a developed country by 2041, he said the present rate of project implementation is not satisfactory.
Barishal divisional commissioner Mohammad Yamin Chowdhury and IMED public policy implementation adviser (CPTU) AKM Fazlul Karim also spoke at the event as the special guests.
Barishal deputy commissioner SM Ajior Rahman presided over the workshop moderated by DIMAPPP principal project management consultant Mosta Gausul Haque, according to a press release.
BCCP senior deputy director Khadija Bilkis made a presentation on Bangladesh Government-Tenderers' Forum (BGTF).
IMED deputy secretary Md Aknoor Rahman and senior assistant secretary and CPTU deputy director Mohammed Salah Uddin also spoke.
Mr Faizullah exhorted the officials concerned to come out of the bottlenecks in project implementation.
Bangladesh is the 42nd-largest economy among 197 countries globally, he added.
