FBBCI working on budget recommendations

FE REPORT
The Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) held a pre-budget meeting on Saturday with chambers and associations from various sectors to prepare recommendations for inclusion in the next national budget for fiscal year (FY) 2024-2025.
At the meeting presided over by FBCCI President Mahbubul Alam, leaders of the trade bodies discussed cuts to import duties, income tax, value added tax (VAT), and other duties.
Mahbubul Alam said they have started preparing their budget recommendations to submit to the National Board of Revenue (NBR).
He mentioned that the FBCCI's expert team is currently working on these recommendations.
He said the country's economy is now on the right footings, but there are challenges arising from the ongoing global economic crisis.
He emphasized the need to bolster the country's economy in response to the global economic situation, the Russia-Ukraine war, and the challenges of graduating from least developed country (LDC) status.
Priority areas for their budget recommendations include reducing the cost of doing business, ensuring good governance in the power and energy sectors, eliminating harassment in tax collection, and establishing a business-friendly tax collection system, he said.
Senior Vice-President of FBCCI Md Amin Helaly, Vice-President of FBCCI Md Munir Hossain, directors, and former first vice-president of FBCCI Mohammad Ali attended the meeting.
