Two chamber bodies will work together to help send skilled workers to Malaysia, one of the largest job markets for Bangladeshi workers.
The Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) and the Bangladesh-Malaysia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BMCCI) have agreed on the issue.
FBCCI president Mahbubul Alam said this during a courtesy meeting with BMCC leaders on Tuesday.
He laid stress on creating skilled manpower keeping in mind the fourth industrial revolution and sectoral needs.
Mr Alam assured with the BMCCI of working jointly to increase employment opportunities for skilled workers of Bangladesh abroad.
He also urged the BMCCI to be proactive in increasing foreign direct investment (FDI) from Malaysia to Bangladesh.
BMCCI president Syed Almas Kabir said the main problem is 'image crisis' as Bangladesh's overseas employment sector is promoted as cheap labour-sending sector all over the world.
Rather, it should be highlighted that Bangladesh also has skilled manpower in various sectors, including doctors, engineers and ICT experts, he observed.
Mr Kabir then sought the cooperation of the FBCCI in increasing the export of skilled manpower to potential countries, including Malaysia.
The issue of trade deficit between Bangladesh and Malaysia also came up in the discussion.
Both FBCCI and BMCCI agreed that the huge deficit could be reduced significantly through FTA, PTA and other trade agreements with this South Asian country.
Both sides expressed their determination to work together in this regard.
