FBCCI calls for price stability, smooth supply in Ramadan

FE REPORT | March 11, 2024 00:00:00

The Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) urged traders on Sunday to keep prices of essential commodities stable and maintain a smooth supply chain during Ramadan, the month of fasting for the Muslim.

The apex trade body made the appeal during its standing committee meeting on 'stock, import, supply and price scenario of perishable goods and marketing and suppliers' at its Motijheel office in the capital.

FBCCI President Mahbubul Alam urged wholesalers and retailers to be vigilant to prevent unscrupulous traders from raising commodity prices artificially. He also urged them to maintain a smooth supply of essential commodities.

Senior Vice-President of FBCCI Md Amin Helaly called for the authorities concerned to take steps to control illegal toll collection in order to keep essential commodity prices stable during the fasting month.

The meeting, chaired by Md Emran Master, chairman of the standing committee and president of the Bangladesh Perishable Foods Arat Owners Association, emphasised smooth marketing of products.

Traders at the meeting voiced their opposition to illegal toll collection and extortions on highways from goods-laden trucks.

FBCCI directors, including Hafez Haji Harum-or-Rashid, Syed MD Bokhtiar and Shahidul Haque Molla, were also present.
