FBCCI calls for stable market prices thru transparent supply chains

FE REPORT | March 25, 2024 00:00:00

The Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) on Sunday called for making the supply chain system free from the influence of 'invisible hands' in order to stabilise the market.

The apex trade body made this recommendation at a meeting of its standing committee on the price monitoring at its office in the capital, with Senior Vice-President of FBCCI Md Amin Helaley in the chair.

Expressing concerns about negative comments directed at businessmen for the price hike, Mr Helaley said most traders prefer to operate their businesses with transparency and honesty.

He noted that due to a handful of unscrupulous businessmen, the entire community is often blamed by consumers for market price volatility.

But an ideal trader never entertains the idea of involvement in smuggling or price manipulation, he added.

He urged all kitchen market committees in the capital to communicate their problems and drawbacks to the FBCCI.

Furthermore, he mentioned that FBCCI would soon engage in discussions with the government to address the issues facing the traders and wholesalers.

The meeting highlighted that the price monitoring committee of FBCCI would meet various kitchen market committee members in the city.

Directors of FBCCI, including Hafez Harum-Or-Rashid, Mohammad Enayetullah, Azizul Haque, and Kawser Ahmed, were also present at the meeting.
