CHITTAGONG, Oct 9: In a bid to expand bilateral trade, business and economic relationship between Bangladesh and the USA, the presidents of the FBCCI and CCCI exchanged views with Greater New York Chamber of Commerce and Industry president Marc Jeffy in New York on September 23.
Federation of Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) president Kazi Akram Uddin Ahmed and Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) president Mahbubul Alam took part in the discussion. Senior vice president of the CCCI Nurun Newaj Selim, US-Bangladesh Partners chairman Aziz Ahmed and CEO Joshi Moy were present on the occasion, a statement issued today, said.
Mr Marc said Bangladesh is a rising economic power. He praised the powerful position of Bangladesh in the global trade and asked Bangladesh government through the FBCCI and CCCI leaders to address the challenges to the country's economic prosperity.
"If the bottlenecks are removed Bangladesh will advance further towards its development," he said and asked leaders of FBCCI and CCCI to work closely for private sector development in Bangladesh and assured his Chamber's all-out support to it. The Greater New York Chamber chief also expressed interest in visiting Chittagong soon with a business team led by him.
Kazi Akram said Bangladesh has achieved 6% average growth (GDP) in spite of worldwide economic recession. He stated different aspects of capability of Bangladesh in the international business and sought cooperation of the Greater New York Chamber of Commerce and Industry president in encouraging US investors to invest in the potential sectors of Bangladesh unilaterally or under joint venture with the Bangladeshi investors.
CCCI president Mahbubul Alam said Bangladesh especially Chittagong is an ideal place for its geographical location for foreign investment. He described the principles of attractive investment incentives and facilities provided by the Government of Bangladesh (GoB).
Alam also emphasized on exchange of trade data and delegation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry between the two countries to further expand bilateral relation.
Nurun Newaj Selim said private sector is the driving force in Bangladesh while government is playing the role of facilitator. He invited the Greater New York Chamber president to visit the World Trade Centre (WTC) constructed by CCCI in Chittagong.
