The country's apex chamber has demanded a block allocation of Tk 100 million from the state coffer in the current fiscal year's revised budget for completion of construction of its new building, sources said.

President of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) Kazi Akram Uddin Ahmed sent a letter last week to Finance Minister AMA Muhith seeking the allocation.

The FBCCI cooperates with the government in preparing industry and trade policy, increasing revenue and industrialisation. But the federation can't cooperate with the government properly due to shortage of its infrastructure, the letter mentioned.

The FBCCI president believes that the FBCCI will be able to contribute more if its infrastructure facility and capacity are increased, the letter said.

"It is quite impossible to complete the new building of the FBCCI without financial assistance from the government," Kazi Akram said in the letter.

Construction activities of 13-storey commercial building are going on at Hatkhola, close to Motijheel commercial area, on some 14.43 kathas of land.

Construction works of main structure of the building will be completed by June-July, 2015.

FBCCI has already laid the foundation-stone of the proposed building on May 6, 2012 with the finance minister attending the function.

FBCCI provided all kinds of necessary supports in favour of 54 district chambers and 215 associations across the country.
