FBCCI seeks smooth power, gas supply to industries

The Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) demanded on Monday that the government should ensure smooth supply of electricity and gas for the sake of uninterrupted operation of the industries.

The apex trade body made the demand at its standing committee meeting on protection and development of the local industries at its Motijheel office in the capital.

FBCCI leaders at the meeting also called for providing bank loans at low interest rate to the business entities and industrial units.

They said that operational costs at the industrial units have increased due to irregular supply of gas and electricity.

FBCCI president Mahbubul Alam virtually attended the meeting.

Some policies have been incorporated in the proposed budget for the fiscal year (FY) 2024-2025 for the betterment of the local industries, said Mahbubul Alam.

He called upon the banks to provide loans at low interest rate aiming to safeguard the local industries.

He stressed the need for creating more skilled manpower to help the local industries flourish.

Senior vice-president of FBCCI Md Amin Helaly said that the apex trade body was working with the government for providing policy support to the local industries.

Chairman of the standing committee and also managing director of Madavdi Dyeing and Finishing Mills Ltd Md Nizam Uddin Bhuiyan Liton presided over the meeting also attended by its directors Azizul Haque and Md Abul Hashem, among others.
