FBCCI suggests removal of NTBs in SAARC countries

FE Report
The Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) suggested on Sunday removing non-tariff barriers (NTBs) for mutual benefits of south Asian nations.
The country's apex trade body also stressed the need for exploring the potential of trade among the south Asian countries.
The suggestions came at a meeting held between FBCCI president Md Shafiul Islam (Mohiuddin) and president of SAARC Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) Suraj Vaidya at the apex trade body's office.
Mr Mohiuddin also suggested boosting bilateral and multilateral trade among the SAARC countries.
He said regional integration through trade and investment is a key to growth and prosperity.
In this context, SCCI can play an important role in augmenting trade and investment, he added.
SCCI president Suraj Vaidya called upon the member countries of SAARC (South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation) to work sincerely to make the forum effective.
He invited the FBCCI president to the 'SAARC Business Leaders Conclave' to be held in Nepal from March 16-18 next year.
Bangladesh exported goods worth US$ 0.83 billion to SAARC countries and imported products of US$ 6.74 billion in the fiscal year (FY) 2016-2017.
FBCCI first vice-president Sheikh Fazle Fahim, SCCI vice-president and former FBCCI vice-president Mahbubul Alam and its directors were also present.
