SaFaL Shrimp Services Centre set up in Satkhira

A SaFaL (Sustainable Agriculture, Food Security and Linkages) Shrimp Services Centre has been set up at Debhata upazila of Satkhira district to provide the local Bagda farmers with technical supports including updated market information.

The initiative is implemented under the SaFaL supported by Solidaridad Network Asia, a global civil society platform, in association with the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Dhaka.

First Secretary of Food Security and Adviser of Water Resource Management (WRM) of the embassy Laurent Umans and Michiel Slotema jointly inaugurated the centre Sunday, a press statement said.

Country Manager of Solidaridad Network Asia Selim Reza Hasan presided over the function. First Secretary of WRM Carel de Groot, WRM Adviser ATM Khaleduzzaman, Economic and Commercial Affairs Adviser of the embassy Monnujan Khanam, among others, attended the function.

Mr Laurent said: "The SaFaL Shrimp Service Centre can help farmers to manage their shrimps including information about modern shrimp cultivation method, harvesting and post-harvest process and market management."

Mr Slotema said the service centre will help unite all lead farmers empowering them to ensure their rights which will encourage them to become an entrepreneur.
