CHITTAGONG, Sept 15: Milk production will increase a lot if the feed formulation is followed for the high quality milch-cows of the country, experts said at a workshop today.
Every single milch-cow requires balanced feed comprising carbohydrate, protein, fat, vitamin, minerals and water besides three kilograms of hay, 20.2 kg German grass and five kg of grain food everyday, they said.
The experts said this at a workshop on high quality milch-cow feed formulation at the Chittagong Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (CVASU) Monday.
Owners and their representatives of 40 dairy farms from different parts of the region participated at the workshop at the CVASU conference hall.
Vice Chancellor of the CVASU Prof Mahfuzul Bari was the chief guest at the workshop. He said the university will do its best to organise more knowledge-based workshops in the days to come with cooperation of all concerned in the sector.
Associate Professor of the university's Animal Science & Neutron department Prof Imran Hossain gave a detailed description about the feed formulation on behalf of the feed formulation committee formed earlier.
He said the feed formulation has been prepared following a long-term research conducted on the dairy farms of Chittagong. Assistant director of the District Artificial Breeding Centre Dr Farhad Hossain also briefed on the feed formulation.
Presided over by Dr MA Matin of Medicine and Surgery department the workshop was also attended by Prof Somen Dewan, Prof Kabirul Islam Khan, Dr AKM Saifuddin, Dr Gouranga Chandra Chanda, Prof Goutam Kumar Debnath, Prof Raihan Faruk, Prof Zonaid Siddiqui, Bhajan Chandra Das, Dr Vibek Sutradhar, Dr Hasanuzzaman, Md Abdul Hai, Umar Faruk, Raquibur Rahman Tutul and Malik Mohd Omar.
