Final decision on RMG park at Gajaria on May 7

Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu said Sunday a final decision on implementation of the readymade garment park at Gajaria in Munshiganj distirict would be taken on May 7, reports BSS.

"Land acquisition for the modern RMG industrial park at Gajaria has been completed. Private investors of China will invest in the RMG park project. The final decision on implementation  of the park will be taken from the meeting of the Prime Minister's Office on May 7," he added.

The minister made the announcement at a multilateral meeting on implementation of the RMG Park held at the Ministry of Industries.

Amu hoped the RMG sector would enter a new era shortly through setting up of the RMG industrial park.

Private investors from China offered to set up the modern RMG industrial park involving US$ 1.2 billion.

They said nearly 250 RMG units would be installed in the park, which would create employment opportunities for 1 million people. The entrepreneurs were expecting that RMG products worth US$ 3 billion would be exported from the park annually.

Industries secretary Mohammad Moinuddin Abdullah and representatives from the ministries of Land and Commerce, Planning Commission, BSCIC and Munshiganj deputy commissioner, among others, were present in the meeting.

The meeting discussed elaborately the quick implementation of the RMG industrial park. Some decisions relating to eradication of the existing barriers had been taken in the meeting, which would be presented in the meeting at the Prime Minister's Office.
