Fire guts RMG factory, cotton storehouse

GAZIPUR, Sept 14 (UNB): A readymade garment (RMG) factory caught fire in Tongi Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation (BSCIC) area of the city on Sunday afternoon.

The local people said the fire originated from an unknown source at a godown of 'Northern Corporation' factory on the ground floor of a three-storey building at about 2:15pm and it soon spread to other parts of the RMG unit.

On information, four firefighting units from Tongi Fire Station rushed in and doused the blaze after one and half an hours of hectic efforts.

The factory authorities claimed that the extent of losses caused by the fire will exceed Tk 8.0 million.

Another report from Mymensingh adds: A fire broke out in a cotton storehouse in BSCIC industrial area of the town in Sunday morning.

The local people said the fire originated from an unknown source at the store house around 11:15am, burning all the materials in the storehouse.

On information, two fire fighting units rushed to the spot and doused the flames around 12:15pm.

Station Officer of Mymensingh Fire Service Foizul Kabir confirmed the incident and said the extent of losses from the fire is yet to be assessed.
