Foreign currencies worth Tk 4.1m seized at Ctg airport

CHATTOGRAM, Oct 25: The law enforcing agencies detained two Dubai bound passengers and seized huge foreign currencies from them at Chattogram's Shah Amanat International Airport Saturday night.
The customs authorities found foreign currencies of Tk 4.10 million (Tk 41,02,484) under the possession of the two passengers.
The detained passengers are identified as Emran Hossain (30) of Chhagalnaiya in Feni district and Nur Kamal (31) of Anwara in Chattogram district.
They were passengers of Dubai bound BG-147 flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines.
The customs authorities recovered currencies equivalent to Tk 1.25 million (Tk 12,58,523) of Kuwait, Saudi Arab and UAE from the possession of Erman while equivalent to Tk 2.84 million (Tk 28,43,961) foreign currencies from Nur Kamal's possession.
Officials of the customs authorities said the recovered foreign currencies were not endorsed in their passports and they were trying to carry the currencies illegally.
One passenger can take currencies equivalent to maximum Tk 1.0 million during visit to overseas countries.
The law enforcing agencies filed cases of money laundering against them with Patenga thana.
