Formulation of comprehensive CSR policy planned

The government plans to formulate a comprehensive corporate social responsibility (CSR) policy as it thinks that a significant amount of money is being misused, according to minutes of a meeting.

It says terrorist group spends a large volume of funds through different non-institutions especially coaching centres, clinics and hospitals etc. They spend hefty amount of fund in the name of Islam. For this, it is necessary to track their sources of funds, meeting sources said.

Some institutions inject substantial amount of funds earned from various sources. The government should monitor where such large amount of fund goes, sources said.

Financing the terrorists groups is a matter of very serious concern. It is necessary to investigate which individual or institution has been spending the CSR funds in the name of compensation, an official of the ministry of home affairs (MoHA) who attended the meeting said.

Some argued in the meeting that there is no rule to use compensation funds by individual or institution. The compensation amount should go to the government exchequer.

State Minister for Home, Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, told the FE Monday "the move has been taken mainly to bring all the CSR activities under an umbrella."

The decision was taken at the meeting of the committee for resistance and prevention of militancy at the MoHA recently, sources said.

The decision of the meeting has been sent to the Ministry of Finance (MoF) for formulating the proposed policy.

"The government has taken adequate measures to find out the source of funding for militancy and prevent such financing to maintain the country's overall law and order situation," a senior official of the MoHA told the FE.
