Prices of vegetables further increased on Friday compared with a week ago, said traders who blamed incessant rain for the negative impact on farming.
Prices of broiler chicken and eggs, however, declined slightly on the day.
Most of other commodities remained static maintaining the higher trend, according to traders of key kitchen markets in the city.
Prices of sponge gourd, teasle gourd, bitter gourd, ridge gourd, leaf vegetables, pointed gourd increased by Tk 5.0-10 per kg.
Sponge gourd was sold at Tk 50-60 per kg, teasle gourd at Tk 45-50, bitter gourd at Tk 40-45 (korola) and Tk 60-65 (ustha).
Leaf vegetable prices increased by Tk2-5 per bunch in the last seven days.
Chilli prices rose to Tk80-90 per kg-a Tk10 hike in a week.
But prices of brinjal, the highest demanding vegetable item in the month of Ramadan, declined by Tk 5.0-10 per kg in different kitchen markets.
Different varieties of eggplants were sold at Tk 55 to Tk 90 per kg.
Ali Hossain, a retailer at BDR Gate-1 Bazar under Hajaribagh area, said prices of most of vegetables increased nearly by Tk6.0-7.0 per kg at the wholesale in a week.
Md Abdul Mannan, a trader at Karwan Bazar in the city, said that prices of a few vegetables increased due to short supply from vegetable growing-hubs.
He said recent nonstop rain in some areas has caused crop damage to many areas including Bogra, Kurigram, Nilphamari, Narshingdi, Comilla, Gaibandha, and Sirajganj.
He said price of chilli increased significantly as water-logging in many parts of Bogra, Nilphamari and Kisoreganj districts worsened in the last three days.
Prices of garlic, both local and imported, further increased by Tk5-10 per kg in last seven days.
Local varieties of garlic were sold at between Tk 70 and Tk 75 and imported at Tk 95-100 per kg at retail level.
Prices of broiler chicken went down by Tk 5.0 per kg in different markets. The protein item was sold at Tk160-165 per kg on the day.
Egg prices also fell slightly as per Haali (four pieces) was sold at Tk28-30 on the day.
