ICC Bangladesh President Mahbubur Rahman delivers the welcome address at the 30th anniversary celebration of the organisation recently.

The International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) Bangladesh celebrated its 30th anniversary with a vow to foster international trade, business connections and sustainable economic development. The anniversary celebration was marked by a grand dinner meeting recently at a city hotel.

The event brought together dignitaries, business leaders, and members of the business community to recount the three decades of its remarkable achievements and contributions to the global business landscape.

The evening commenced with a captivating video presentation that shed light on the rich history and activities of both ICC Headquarters and ICC Bangladesh.

The presentation also highlighted the pivotal role of ICC Bangladesh since its inception in 1994, emphasising its significant contributions to fostering international trade, facilitating global business connections, and driving sustainable economic development.

A message from Mr. John Denton, ICC Secretary General, on behalf of ICC Chair Mr. Philippe Varin, was read out by Ashraf Ahmed, former president of the Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI).

In the message Denton conveyed that ICC, a global institution founded over 100 years ago, was dedicated to promoting peace and prosperity through cross-border trade.

Representing more than 45 million businesses in 170 countries, ICC strived to make business work for everyone, every day, and everywhere, he added.

Denton also acknowledged the valuable contributions of ICC Bangladesh to the ICC network.

He commended the team's proactive engagement in the Banking Commission, their leadership in implementing and updating ICC rules and standards, their active participation in global conferences, and their collaborative efforts with other national committees in developing workshops in Malaysia, Vietnam, and Thailand.

Mr. Denton particularly praised ICC Bangladesh's innovative approach, exemplified by their work with the ICC Digital Standards Initiative and their recent workshops for Women Entrepreneurs.

He also put emphasis on the importance of digital trade and economic inclusion for Bangladesh's continued development while citing IMF estimates that the country could gain almost 40 per cent of GDP by closing gender gaps in labour force participation.

He praised ICC Bangladesh's leadership in these crucial areas and reiterated ICC's commitment to supporting Bangladesh's private sector as a good force for society.

Citing the UN, he also said Bangladesh could gain an additional $600 million in export revenue by embracing digital trade processes.
