A subsidiary loan and grant agreement was signed on Wednesday for the implementation of the "Growth for Climate Resilient and Environmental Entrepreneurship and Nutrition (GREEN)" project to promote climate-resilient agriculture, environment-friendly entrepreneurship and improved nutrition in the country, reports UNB.
The agreement was inked between the Finance Division and Palli Karma-Sahayak Foundation (PKSF) at the Secretariat.
The International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) will finance US$70 million through the Government of Bangladesh to implement the project across the country from 2026 to 2031, with priority given to selected regions based on poverty, climate vulnerability and agricultural potential.
Under the project, some 260,000 people are expected to benefit from the project, including poor and marginal farmers, women and youth entrepreneurs, small-scale agribusiness entrepreneurs, families living in climate-vulnerable areas and members of small ethnic communities.
The project will focus on developing climate-resilient and environmentally sustainable food systems, expanding inclusive financial services and strengthening institutional capacity.
The agreement was signed by PKSF Deputy Managing Director Dr. Akand Mohammad Rafiqul Islam and Finance Division Joint Secretary Naznin Sultana, said a PKSF release.
