Furniture fair attracts visitors

Bangladesh Furniture and Interior Decor (BFID) Expo-2015 got significant response from visitors and buyers with export orders.
Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) vice chairman Shubhashish Bose disclosed this at the closing ceremony of the 3-day BFID expo at the city's Jamuna Future Park Thursday. Organisers and participants were present at the ceremony.
He said a total of 51 exhibitors showcased their products with a view to promote to the foreign buyers. Participants got export order of more than US$0.8 million.
Mr Bose said government has emphasised on market diversification and also include new products in export basket to increase export earnings. Of those initiatives, furniture and home furnishing expo is important.
Government is giving importance on development of furniture and home furnishing sector considering labour intensive once, he added.
Hedayetullah Al Mamoon, senior secretary of ministry of commerce said government is considering giving cash incentive to the furniture exporters.
However, some exhibitors expressed mixed reaction over success of this fair saying the expo failed to get expected response from the visitors following unsuitable venue.
They said local people are not familiar with the venue as exposition place. "So we are not successful this year," said a participant wishing unnamed.
He said following some technical problem they are forced to choose the place as expo venue. Previous year they hosted the fair at Bangabandhu International Conference Center (BICC).
The exposition was jointly organized by the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB), Bangladesh Furniture Exporters Association (BFEA), Banglacraft, Bangladesh Jute Diversified Products Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BJDPMEA) and Bangladesh Furniture Industry Owners Association (BFIOA) in collaboration with Jute Diversification Promotion Center (JDPC)
Exhibitors from furniture and home furnishing sector showcased their wide array of products like home furniture, office furniture, kitchen furniture, curtain, cushion, quilt, felt products, table mat, mattress, showpiece, table lamp, waste baskets, table runner, carpet, floor covering, different type of decorative items, bed cover, nakshi kantha, laundry basket, tapestry etc.
