A three-day Bangladesh Furniture and Interior Decor Expo-2015 opens tomorrow (Tuesday) in the city to show the strength of local players.
The announcement came at a press conference held Saturday in the city.
The Export Promotion Bureau (EPB), Bangladesh Furniture Exporters Association (BFEA), Banglacraft, Bangladesh Jute Diversified Products Manufacturers & Exporters Association and Bangladesh Furniture Industry Owners Association (BFIOA) in collaboration with Jute Diversification Promotion Center (JDPC) are organising the expo.
EPB Vice-Chairman, Shubhashish Bose, Director General of EPB, Mafruha Sultana, Executive Director, Jute Diversification Promotion Center, Mrs. Nasima Begum, President, Bangladesh Furniture Exporters Association, K.M Akhtaruzzman, president of Banglacraft, S.U. Haider, Bangladesh Furniture Industry Owners Association, Selim H Rahman, and President, Bangladesh Jute Diversified Products Manufacturers & Exporters Association, Shahedul Islam Helal were present in the press conference, among others.
Speaking at the press conference, Mr Bose said that showcasing the strength of furniture and home furnishing sectors of Bangladesh to the business communities across the globe is the main objective of the event.
Bangladesh has the long business heritage and available cheap labour, which are the strength to become competitive in international business, he said.
He also said that sophisticated hand carving, hand weaving and creativity of artisans and craftsmen as well as high class technology make the sector more capable than its global rivals, Mr Bose added.
Mr Bose said the three-day Expo will be attended by a total of 12,000 visitors from across the world. In addition, representatives from local sourcing offices of branded business houses will also attend in the exposition, he added.
A total of 50 exhibitors from Furniture & Home Furnishing sector will showcase their wide array of products like home furniture, office furniture, kitchen furniture, curtain, cushion, quilt, felt products, table mat, mattress, showpiece, table lamp, waste baskets, table runner, carpet, floor covering, different type of decorative items, bed cover, nakshi kantha, laundry basket, tapestry etc, officials said.
The Expo will be inaugurated by the commerce minister Tofail Ahmed on the 24th March 2015.
Minister for the ministry of Textiles and Jute, Mohammad Emaz Uddin Pramanik, Senior Secretary, Ministry of Commerce, Vice-Chairman, EPB and President FBCCI will be present in the inaugural ceremony of the exposition.
The event will continue till 26th March, 2015 and be open from 10.00 a.m. to 8.00 p.m. everyday for the visitors and buyers.
