Gambian entrepreneurs have been urged to import chemical, leather and leather goods, footwear, and light engineering and plastic goods from Bangladesh.
DCCI President Shahjahan Khan made the appeal while receiving a delegation of Gambia Chamber of Commerce and Industry to Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) in the city on Tuesday, reports UNB.
The DCCI and Gambia Chamber of Commerce and Industry have agreed to work jointly in exploring trade and investment between the two chambers.
In this connection, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was also signed between the two chambers.
DCCI Secretary AHM Rezaul Kabir and Chief Executive Officer of Gambia Chamber of Commerce and Industry Alieu Secka signed the MoU on behalf of their respective chambers.
The MoU was signed when a 12-member delegation from Gambia, led by Minister for Trade, Investment, Regional Integration and Employment (MOTIE) Abdoulie Jobe, visited the DCCI and held a business meeting.
Ambassador of Gambia accredited in Bangladesh and India Dembo M Badjie and Honorary Consul of Gambia in Bangladesh Kazi Khurran Ahmed were present during the meeting.
The DCCI president said the two countries should work together to enhance agriculture and food processing industries.
The Gambian minister urged the private sector representatives from both the countries to come forward for business development.
He also made a proposal to Bangladesh businessmen to visit Gambia and explore new business opportunities.
Chief Executive Officer of Gambia Investment and Export Promotion Agency (GIEPA) Fatu Mbenga Jallow urged Bangladeshi entrepreneurs to invest in agro and food processing, tourism, fisheries, infrastructure and communication, renewable energy, readymade garment (RMG), and information and communication technology (ICT) in Gambia.
She told the DCCI leaders that Gambia has allowed 100 per cent ownership and tax holiday facilities for foreign investors.
DCCI Vice President Kh Shahidul Islam, directors Haider Ahmed Khan, FCA, Humayun Rashid, Nessar Maksud Khan, S Rumi Saifullah, Hossain A Sikder, Alhaj Abdus Salam, Md Shoaib Choudhury, AKD Khair Mohammad Khan and KG Karim were also present during the meeting.
