German chancellor tells firms to hire foreign workers

BERLIN, May 15 (Reuters): Europe's biggest economy needs companies to recruit workers from abroad to keep growing, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said on Wednesday, adding no one should be swayed by populist demands such as to leave the European Union.
"Germany's economy is one of the most open in the world - our prosperity depends on it," Scholz told the IHK Chambers of Commerce and Industry at an event in Berlin.
Scholz said part of efforts to fill the skilled labour gap included companies and chambers actively recruiting foreign skilled labour.
