The German government reassured its continuous support to Bangladesh readymade garment (RGM) sector with providing training and sharing expertise and experience for improvement of safety standards and workers' rights.
"With our development cooperation Germany will continue to support Bangladeshi companies and the Bangladeshi government," said Parliamentarian State Secretary of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development of Germany Hans-Joachim Fuchtel, reports BSS.
Mr Fuchtel visited Bangladesh from October 24 to October 26. During his visit, Mr Fuchtel met Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed and RMG factory owners and union representatives.
The main objective of his visit was to get further insights into the current state of the Bangladesh's apparel sector.
The German Embassy in Dhaka issued a statement on the visit on Monday stating that the State Secretary noted that the existing German cooperation in the Bangladesh garment sector involving training and sharing expertise already contributed to an improvement in safety standards and workers' rights in Bangladesh.
Mr Fuchtel, however, invited representatives of the trade union of the country's RMG sector to visit Germany for sharing experiences with their German counterpart.
He said Germany is one of the leading export nations of the world and therefore, possesses a lot of knowledge that can also be valuable for this country.
"The RMG production in Bangladesh is incredibly dynamic. This country is in an excellent position to increase its share on the world market," said Mr Fuchtel.
