Govt, businesses to discuss hurdles to trade this month

Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed said Wednesday the government will hold a meeting with the businessmen this month to discuss ways of removing barriers to trade.
 "Finance Minister will attend the meeting where businessmen will be able to raise their problems and how to resolve those," he said at a meeting of Business Advisory Committee held in the city.
In the meeting, the business community expressed their concern over the prevailing bottlenecks of doing businesses. They called upon the government to remove the bottlenecks for the interest of economy and growth.
In the upcoming meeting, all the government bodies will be present. They will be directed by the government to ensure uninterrupted supply of power and gas to the business establishments and simplification of banking formalities.
The government had earlier formed the business advisory committee with the representation of different trade bodies to promote the country's trade and businesses. The 25- member committee in the private sector gives suggestions to the commerce minister for promoting country's trade and investment.
The government, after formation of the committee previously held meeting on April last.
The advisory committee has the responsibility to help the government a lot in framing business policy.
About the shortage of gas supply cited by the businessmen in the industries, the Commerce Minister said the problems will be resolved once the Prime Minister formally inaugurates the additional gas flow of Bibiyana Expansion Project shortly.
He said that Bangladesh has advanced a lot among the poorer nations in the world and is trying to upgrade its status.
President of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) Kazi Akram Uddin Ahmed said that efforts are underway to reduce the bank interest rate.
President of International Chamber of Commerce, Bangladesh (ICC,B) Mahbubur Rahamn laid emphasis on implementing the decisions in a  coordinated way.   
President of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) Md Atiqul Islam suggested the government allow factories to easily transfer their gas lines from old factories to the new ones by amending the relevant regulation.
Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce (MoC) Hedayetullah Al Mamun, Vice- Chairman of EPB Shubashish Bose, President of Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) Shahjahan Khan, President of Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA) Md Salim Osman and Chairman of Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) Sarwar Jahan Talukdar, among others, were present.
