Govt fund sought for FBCCI building

The ministry of commerce has sought a block allocation of Tk 100 million to help the country's apex chamber complete its new building.

Last week, senior secretary of the Commerce Ministry sent a letter to his counterpart at the ministry of finance seeking the allocation from the current fiscal year's revised budget.

Earlier, president of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry Kazi Akram Uddin Ahmed had sent a letter to the Finance Minister AMA Muhith in this connection.

"Construction of 13-storey commercial building is going on at Hatkhola, close to Motijheel commercial area, on some 14.43 kathas of land. Construction work of main structure of the building will be completed by June-July, 2015. It is quite impossible to complete the new building of the FBCCI without financial assistance from the government, the commerce secretary said in the letter citing the FBCCI letter.

The apex chamber laid the foundation-stone of the building in May 2012.

The FBCCI cooperates with the government in preparing industry and trade policy, increasing revenue and industrialisation. But it said the federation can't cooperate with the government properly due to shortage of its infrastructure.

The FBCCI provides all kinds of necessary supports to 54 district chambers and 215 associations across the country.
