Govt help sought to set up packaging institute, lab

About 1,300 entrepreneurs of garments accessories and packaging sector have sought government cooperation to establish a packaging institute and a testing laboratory, officials said.
The entrepreneurs have also sought incentive for the sector, they said. Bangladesh Garments Accessories and Packaging Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGAPMEA) has sent a letter to the senior secretary of the ministry of finance (MoF) seeking donation for setting up the institute and testing laboratory.
The present world is very competitive. It is necessary to increase the quality of products for sustaining in the world, the letter said.
"We have long been trying to establish an institute and testing laboratory for development and expansion of the accessories and packaging sector in the country. A move is underway to establish the institute and laboratory in cooperation with European Union," president of the BGAPMEA said in the letter. He said BGAPMEA cannot establish the institute/library alone due to shortage of necessary fund. For this, government's assistance is needed.
The government has provided a fund of Tk 100 million to an institute in the current fiscal year. So, BGAPMEA hopes to get such allocation for setting up the institute/laboratory, the letter mentioned.
