Govt moves to strengthen district chambers

The government has taken initiatives to strengthen district chambers aiming to help the country's trade and business flourish, officials said. Most of the district chambers in the country have been facing different problems, which hinder their activities, they said. The Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry, the country's apex trade body, is responsible for looking after the problems of the district chambers. Apart from the FBCCI, the ministry of commerce (MoC) has a key role in providing necessary support to the district chambers for their overall development. Meanwhile, the ministry of commerce has started visiting different district chambers and discussed with the district business leaders on the problems of their respective district chambers and business potential. They have visited Rajshahi, Sylhet, Mymensingh and Cox's Bazar chambers and found some problems faced by the chambers. Most of the district chambers have not their own buildings. As a result, they cannot coordinate with the district's different business associations. As part of the ongoing government efforts, a team from the ministry will visit Chittagong and Bandarbans Chambers later this month.
