Govt okays buying 50,000 tonnes of wheat

The government has approved procurement of 50,000 tonnes of wheat at a cost of Tk 1.14 billion.
A meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Public Procurement endorsed a proposal in this regard at Cabinet Division of Bangladesh Secretariat on Sunday with Finance Minister A H M Mustafa Kamal in the chair.
Swiss Singapore Overseas Enterprises Pte Ltd will supply the wheat at a price of $268.14 per tonne.
Briefing newsmen after the meeting, Agriculture Minister Dr Muhammad Abdur Razzaque said the committee also approved procurement of additional 30,000 tonnes of octane to meet the demand during November-December period. The procurement will cost the public exchequer Tk 1.59 billion.
The meeting also approved appointment of an advisory firm for infrastructure development of Japanese Economic Zone in Araihazar upazila under Narayanganj.
Before that a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs approved signing deal for extension of service of independent engineer for Dhaka Elevated Expressway project for three more years.
The committee hoped that the expressway construction work will be completed by 2022.
