Govt plans export incentives for leather industry


The government is taking initiatives to extend export incentives to the leather industry as in the garments sector, Industries Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun said on Sunday.
"I want to work for the country and its people. I would like to fulfill the responsibilities entrusted to me by the Prime Minister," he said while taking charge as the industries minister for a second term at the conference room of his ministry in the city, reports BSS.
To achieve self-sufficiency in fertiliser production, he said, initiatives are being taken to set up a modern fertiliser factory in the place of the old facility in Ashuganj and build a new fertiliser factory in Bhola.
"Acting on the instructions of the Prime Minister, we have adopted the action plan prioritising these issues," the minister added.
He also said that his ministry wants to modernise the sugar mills, aiming to turn them into profitable enterprises.
Also, a salt institute will be set up in Cox's Bazar for the development of salt industry, he added.
