Govt to appoint C&F agents to Mongla, Ctg seaports

The government is set to appoint clearing and forwarding (C&F) and transport agents to Mongla and Chittagong seaports for quick unloading and transport of imported fertilisers and other goods by Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC), officials said.
To this effect, the cabinet committee on public purchase is going to endorse two project proposals for the appointment of the agents involving over Tk 1.69 billion, they added.  
BADC has set a target to import 660,000 tonnes of phosphate fertiliser for the fiscal year (FY) 2016-17 and FY 2017-18 through Mongla port.
It will also import a total of 440,000 tonnes of phosphate fertiliser for the FY 2016-17 and FY 2017-18 through Chittagong port, a high official of the ministry of agriculture (MoA) who is involved with the process told the FE.    
He said MoA has sent the project proposals to the cabinet division seeking approval for the appointment of the agents to Chittagong and Mongla ports. The cabinet committee on public purchase is likely to give approval to the proposals on Wednesday.
The financial proposal for the appointment of the agents to Mongla port and Chittagong port is estimated at over Tk 1.0 billion and around Tk 698 million respectively.
The cabinet committee on public purchase is also set to approve nine other projects including installation of single point mooring (SPM) with double pipeline for quick supply of power and energy in cooperation with China Petroleum Pipeline Bureau (CPP),  expansion of rural electrification in Dhaka, Chittagong and Sylhet divisions, building new rail line from Ishwardi to Dhalarchar, upgradation of Khulna railway station and Benapole railway station's operational facilities, construction of chief judicial magistrate court buildings in Moulvibazar and construction of residential apartments for limited income group of people at Mohammadpur in the capital.
