Govt to procure 60,000 tonnes of fertiliser, 10,000 tonnes of lentil

The advisory council committee on government purchase at a meeting on Wednesday approved the procurement of fertiliser and lentils to meet local demand for these essential commodities.
Finance adviser Dr Salehuddin Ahmed presided over the meeting held at the cabinet division conference room at the Secretariat.
Briefing newsmen after the meeting, the adviser said the Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation (BCIC) has been authorised to import 30,000 tonnes of bulk granular urea fertiliser from Fertiglobe Distribution Ltd, UAE. The total cost will be Tk 1.21 billion, with each tonne priced at $343.17.
The BCIC has also been given go-ahead to import 30,000 tonnes of bagged granular urea fertiliser from KAFCO, Bangladesh, at a total cost of Tk 1.16 billion, with each tonne priced at $330.50.
Dr Ahmed said the Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) has been authorised to buy 10,000 tonnes of lentil from M/S Sahara Enterprise, Dhaka, at a total cost of Tk 982 million, with each kilogram priced at Tk 98.20.
Replying to a query, the adviser said the government has prioritised the maintenance of a stable supply chain through necessary procurements to ensure that people get fertiliser and energy without delay.
As the Boro season is approaching, the government is trying to bring in the consignments of fertiliser as early as possible, he added.
