PABNA, Sept 13 (BSS): The government has taken an initiative to resume production at the Pakshi North Bengal Paper Mill at Ishwardi in Pabna.
Land Minister Shamsur Rahman Sharif said this while talking to the journalists here this noon.
The North Bengal Paper Mill, usually manufactured the best quality paper at cheaper cost by using local raw materials, was forced shut down by then Industries Minister Nizami during the BNP-Jamaat alliance government tenure on 2001-2006, said the minister.
The then BNP-Jamaat alliance government allegedly had taken initiative to auction the mill unlawfully, the minister claimed, saying "but the BNP-Jamaat government had failed to do that unlawful act due to agitation and strong protest by the members of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Industries at that time", Mr Sharif said.
Organising secretary of the Awami League central committee Abu Sayeed Al-Mahmud Shawpan, MP, Golam Faruque Khandker Prince, MP, and Pabna district council administrator M Sayedul Haq Chunnu, among others, were present at the meeting.
