Govt undertakes 235 projects to expand BR network

The government has undertaken 235 projects to expand the network of Bangladesh Railways in 59 districts across the country.
Railways Minister M Mazibul Haque said this in the Jatiya Sangsad, while replying to a question from treasury bench member Enamul Haque Monday, reports BSS.
He said the government approved a mega plan of Bangladesh Railway (BR) to improve its service and network across the country. Currently BR maintains its network in 44 districts, the minister added.
He said all the 235 projects would be implemented in four phases, which would also bring 15 more districts under the railway network.
Replying to another question from opposition bench member Begum Salma Islam, the minister said the government is conducting a drive to recover 4,391.39 acres of land belonging to Bangladesh Railway from the illegal grabbers.
Besides, the government approved nine Public Private Partnership (PPP) projects of Bangladesh Railway to construct medical colleges, five star hotels and guesthouse cum shopping malls on the BR lands.
