Govt urged to increase trade with Malaysia

State Minister for Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Zunaid Ahmed Palak, MP, being greeted by BMCCI Secretary General Raquib Mohammad Fakhrul in the city Tuesday.

The government has been urged to take initiative to increase trade and investment between Bangladesh and Malaysia.

Secretary General of Bangladesh-Malaysia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BMCCI) Raquib Mohammad Fakhrul made the appeal while a team of the trade body led by him called on State Minister for Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Zunaid Ahmed Palak, MP, in the city Tuesday, said a press release.

Bangladesh should look at to the possibilities of establishing a Multimedia Super Corridor (MSC) like Malaysia to enhance the growth of its ICT development, said Mr Fakhrul.

The MSC Malaysia was established in 1996 with the aspiration of becoming a global hub for ICT and multimedia innovation, operation and services and to transform Malaysia into a knowledge-economy and achieve developed nation status in line with Vision 2020.

Mr Fakhrul appreciated the role of BMCCI in promoting bilateral trade and investment between the two brotherly countries.

In reply, the state minister said that it is in the government's active consideration to increase bilateral trade and investment with Malaysia.

He also assured the delegation of his ministry's all out support to all BMCCI activities to uphold further development of relation between the two countries.

Mr Fakhrul told the state minister that the BMCCI is going to organise 3rd Showcase Bangladesh 2014 in Kuala Lumpur.

The show will be held during November 2014 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC) in cooperation with Bangladesh High Commission in Malaysia, Ministry of Commerce, Ministry of Industries and Ministry of Civil Aviation & Tourism of Bangladesh.

This event is also be co-partnered with MASSA, MATRADE, MIDA of Malaysia and supported by Chambers of Commerce of both the countries.

This year the BMCCI has specifically focused on three areas: Branding of Bangladesh, supporting Malaysian entrepreneurs to strengthen their network with Bangladesh business and investors community that will help relocation/setting up of sun set industries in Bangladesh with joint collaboration and enhance trade/business promotion of Bangladesh in Malaysia.
