Govt won't spare syndicates involved in destabilising rice market: Sadhan

Food Minister Sadhan Chandra Majumder has given a note of warning saying that no one will be spared if they try to destabilize the market by increasing the price of rice, reports BSS.
"The government remains vigilant to keep the market price of rice stable. Attempts to increase the price of rice with excuses will not be tolerated," he said while speaking at the virtual inauguration ceremony of the Aman paddy and rice-procurement programme of the current season as the chief guest, said a press release.
Around 60 per cent of paddy was already harvested, he said, adding that new paddy started arriving in the market.
"The price of rice is also low now," he said, adding that there is no scope to increase the price of rice.
He said that the country become self-reliant in the production of food grains under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Farmers have got bumper yield of Aman this season and currently, the country has surplus food, he said.
Asking mill owners not to send substandard rice to the government's warehouse, he said, "There will be no compromise with the quality of rice."
The minister advised all concerned to collect paddy and rice as per the instructions of the officials of the Directorate General of Food.
Secretary of the Ministry of Food Md Ismiel Hossain presided over the programme.
Director General of Directorate General of Food, Dhaka Md Shakhawat Hossain, Additional Director General Md Abdullah Al Mamun and Director Moniruzzaman attended the virtual programme.
Besides, Deputy Commissioners, Superintendents of Police, Regional Food Controllers, District Food Controllers, mill owners, farmers' representatives and media persons also joined it.
