Govt working to boost trade ties with more countries: Titu

The government is working to further increase trade relations with different countries and has asked its commercial counsellors to diversify export products and markets.

"Necessary capacity should be increased to enhance trade relations with different countries across the world," state minister for commerce Ahasanul Islam Titu told a meeting of the Annual Development Programme (ADP) at secretariat in the capital on Monday.

The commerce ministry is working to further improve trade relations with different countries and has already instructed its commercial counsellors to diversify markets and exports goods, he said.

Highlighting the need for increasing the ministry's projects, Mr Titu said, "The UNDP, Australia and Japan are interested to increase our capacity in trade negotiations. In addition, the World Bank has expressed interest in making the Tariff Commission more capable."

"To build 'Smart Bangladesh', we have to work with responsibility."

Commerce secretary Md Salim Uddin made a brief address on the first day of the new fiscal 2024-25, urging everyone to work together to implement the vision set by the state minister.

Senior officials from commerce and planning ministries and the Bangladesh Tea Board, TCB chairman and representatives from the state agencies were present.
