KHULNA, Apr 10 (BSS) : Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan has said that government is working in full swing to revamp Mongla Port, second largest port in the country.
He was presiding over the 10th meeting of Mongla Port Advisory Committee at the conference room of Mongla Port Authority last evening.
Lawmaker of Bagerhat-2 constituency Talukder Abdul Khaleque, lawmaker of Bagerhat -4 constituency Mir Shawkat Ali Badsha, Additional Secretary of Shipping Ministry Md. Rafiqul Islam, Chairman of Mongla Port Authority Rear Admiral Reaz Uddin Ahmed, among others, were present.
The meeting discussed capital dredging and keeping navigability by regular maintenance of dredging, completing sheet piling in order to stop silt intrusion, giving 15 days free time for 40 feet highcube container, stopping written obligation system to agent by ship owners for keeping imported goods at protected area of the port, constructing yard for multistoried car parking and adding modern equipments through modifying old handling equipments.
Besides, the meeting also has discussed about ensuring of implementation of short, medium and long term development and ensuring of navigable space to bring discipline in anchoring activities of commercial ships at Harbaria area in the Sunderbans.
